An architectural chef d'oeuvre known throughout the entire world, the construction of the Palais Garnier was decided by Napoléon III as part of his project of cleaning up the city lead by Haussmann. Work lasted 15 years and the Palais Garnier was inaugurated on the 5th of January 1875.
