Versailles
In Paris
On UNESCOs World Heritage List for the past 30 years, the Château de Versailles is one of the finest achievements of 17th century French art. The site began as Louis XIIIs hunting lodge before his son Louis XIV transformed and expanded it, moving the court and government of France to Versailles in 1682. Up until the French Revolution, each of the three French kings who lived there added improvements to make the château even more beautiful.
